From Burning Man with Love: Fun Videos of Inspired Gift Givers

For tens of thousands of people each year, gifting is a central part of the Burning Man experience. As second on the list of the “10 Principles of Burning Man,” written by founder Larry Harvey, gifting is a core practice of this unique annual event that draws 60,000 international participants to a magically transformed bare expanse of desert in Nevada.

Gifts are always free at Burning Man. Nobody was paid anything for the services they share in these videos. The widely-observed principle of “Decommodification” means that no money or barter is exchanged on the playa. Built on top of a foundation of giving freely are the principles of “Immediacy,” and “Participation,” along with the liberating principle of “Radical Self-expression.” This unique mix creates space for the practices of courage, generosity, compassion and creativity.

‘From Burning Man with Love” is an eight video series (below) funded by donations to the new media non-profit, Informing to Empower, for the Sonoma Independent. We thank each of the participants profiled for their willingness to connect and to share.
